How to Spring Clean Your Skin: A Guide to Cleansers

Spring is in full bloom and, as a vegan skincare brand, we’re in heaven with all that nature has to offer. But, we also know that while we're embracing this season (picture us running romantically with open arms), your skin might not share the same enthusiasm. That’s because when seasons change, so do your skincare needs. One easy way to flip the switch is to upgrade your cleansers, and make sure you have the best cleansing routine for the season.

We’ve made it super simple for you to find the best cleansers for your skin type, starting with an overview of what happens to your skin during the spring season.

What happens to your skin in the spring?

Once we get into April and May, skin can go through several changes due to shifts in weather, humidity levels and environmental factors. You’ll probably notice your skin getting oilier (especially around the T-zone) and more irritated. You might even see some new sunspots appear. Don’t worry - we’ve got you covered!
But first, here’s some insight into the three most annoying issues you might be dealing with this time of year:

1. Oil Overdrive

As the temps rise and the air gets a little more humid, your skin might go into oil overdrive, especially if you normally have oily or combination skin. You’ll notice your skin looking super shiny, but not in that radiant, glowy way - we’re talking straight-up greasy! This excess oil can lead to clogged pores and breakouts. Cue our Seboom line, specially formulated to target acne, blackheads, and excess oil.

    Try the Seboom Collection

    2. Sensitivity. Allergies, Anyone?

Allergies: the not-so-glam side of spring. Pollen, dust, and all that gunk can wreak havoc on our skin, leaving it feeling red, itchy, and all-around irritated. You might even notice eczema,  psoriasis and rosacea flare-ups. We recommend our Pink line, which is designed for sensitive skin and (like all BodyBoom products), it’s made with vegan ingredients and formulated with the environment in mind.

      3. Sun’s Out, Spots Are Out

Spring days mean more time in the sun, but it also means more UV exposure. And trust us, your skin’s not a fan of those harmful rays. You might see extra freckles turn up overnight. So, slather on that SPF every day to keep your skin tone looking even and healthy.

How to choose the right cleanser for your face

From bubbly foams to silky oils, there's a whole squad of cleansers. It can get a little overwhelming figuring out what type of cleanser is best for your skin type, especially if your skin type changes with the seasons. Whether you're lathering up with a foaming cleanser or melting away the day with an oil-based formula, each type brings its own unique benefits to the table. Let’s break it down so you can decide which type of skin cleanser is best for you.

      1. Foaming Cleansers

Foaming cleansers, like our Superstar Hydrating and Illuminating Face Wash, are designed to create a lather when mixed with water. They contain ingredients that help break down oil, dirt, and impurities on the skin's surface, making them super effective at removing excess oil and makeup. Foaming cleansers are best for people with oily or acne-prone skin because they can deeply cleanse without leaving a heavy residue. Usually you want to stay away from foamy washes if you have dry skin, but our Superstar foam works for all skin types. It’s specially made to give a boost of hydration from key natural ingredients, without the heaviness or grease.

        2. Gel Cleansers

Gel cleansers have a gel-like consistency that gently cleanses the skin without stripping away its natural moisture. They’re water-based and contain ingredients like glycerin and hyaluronic acid, which help hydrate and soothe the skin. Though suitable for all skin types, gel cleansers are especially helpful for those with oily or combination skin, since they’re great at removing impurities without leaving a greasy residue.

          3. Micellar Water

Micellar water is a gentle cleansing water that contains micelles, tiny oil molecules suspended in soft water. These micelles attract and trap dirt, oil, and makeup, allowing them to be easily wiped away without the need for rinsing. Our BodyBoom Cleansing Micellar Water is ideal for those with sensitive or dry skin because it cleanses without causing irritation or dryness. Bonus: It’s the ultimate go-to product because it doesn’t require any water to work its magic! It can also be used to remove your makeup before your regular cleanse. Talk about a multitasker!

          4. Toner

Toners, like our Seboom Refreshing Face Gel Toner, are generally applied after cleansing and before moisturizing. While not technically a cleanser, toner plays an important role in the cleansing process by removing any remaining traces of dirt, makeup, or cleanser residue from the skin. Our toner contains ingredients like niacinamide, black tea ferment, and lemon extract, which help tighten pores, remove dead skin cells and revitalize skin, all while giving your skin that much needed boost of hydration. They’re suitable for all skin types, but our Seboom toner happens to be especially useful for people with oily or combination skin.

How to Use Cleansers in the Spring

Not sure how to put it all together? No problem. We'll help you plan your day.
Kickstart your morning with a refreshing cleanse. Reach for your favorite foaming or gel cleanser to wash away any impurities that may have accumulated overnight, and leave your skin feeling clean and revitalized.
As you go about your day - whether you're busy at school, work, or hanging out on the weekend - your skin may encounter environmental pollutants and sweat buildup. A simple swipe of micellar water can work wonders to refresh your skin and remove any excess oil or grime. If you just finished a workout, this is a great time to pull your micellar water out of your gym bag for a quick refresh.
Once the day winds down and the sun sets, it's the perfect opportunity for some self-care time. Treat yourself to a double cleansing ritual by starting with an oil cleanser to melt away stubborn makeup and sunscreen, followed by a gentle foaming or gel cleanser to wash away any remaining impurities. This two-step process ensures that your skin is thoroughly cleansed and prepped for the rest of your nighttime skincare routine.
