5 Steps to Radiant Skin: Using Natural Skincare for Every Skin Type

5 Steps to Radiant Skin: Using Natural Skincare for Every Skin Type

Hey, there! Since you’re here, I already know we have something in common. Like me, you’re into taking care of your skin with natural products. I’ll bet you’re also into caring for the environment, trying out vegan ingredients and sticking to cruelty-free brands. The good news is that no matter how complicated your skin type is - whether it’s dry, oily or combination - natural products can be super effective at giving you the results you’re looking for.

I’m including here below the five pivotal steps to achieve that natural, radiant skin, no matter your skin type. Remember: beauty is more than skin deep. But having great skin doesn't hurt either!

Know Your Skin

The first step is understanding your skin type. Think of it as your skincare GPS. It helps you navigate the maze of products. Dry, oily, combination, sensitive, or normaleach skin type has its own set of needs. Knowing your skin type is about acknowledging its likes and dislikes, and working your way around it.

Not sure what your skin type is? Try observing how your skin behaves throughout the day. Oily skin tends to produce excess sebum, resulting in a shiny complexion, enlarged pores, and occasional acne. Dry skin often feels tight, rough, or flaky due to a lack of natural oils, and can be prone to redness or irritation. Combination skin combines both oily and dry types - usually an oily T-zone with dry patches around the face. Normal skin generally maintains a healthy balance, neither overly oily nor excessively dry, and is less prone to breakouts. Another method you can use involves the "barefaced" test, where you cleanse your face, don’t apply any products, and notice how it feels after some time.

Cleanse with Care

This is super important. Cleansing is vital! It’s the foundation for your entire skincare routine. You have to start with a clear canvas for your skincare products to perform their magic. Your skincare products will be much more effective if they don’t have a barrier of makeup, dirt or buildup keeping them from reaching your skin.

But remember, not all cleansers are created equal. Some are gentle, natural and powerfully effective (like my BabyBoom line), while others just strip your skin of its natural oils. So, choose wisely. Find a cleanser that suits your skin type, one that removes dirt and grime without leaving your skin feeling like the Sahara Desert

Exfoliate, but Don’t Exaggerate

Exfoliating is like giving your skin a refreshing reset, but it's crucial to strike the right balance to achieve that healthy glow without overdoing it. Exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells, unclog pores, and promote a radiant complexion. However, too much of a good thing can lead to irritation, redness, and sensitivity. For our youthful skin, it's advisable to exfoliate 1-3 times a week, depending on your skin type. For oily skin, exfoliate around 3 times a week. For dry skin, just once or twice a week is fine. For combination skin, focus on exfoliating the oily areas 3 times and the dry areas less often.

Always opt for a gentle, natural exfoliant, like my all-natural Seboom scrub which complements all  skin types

Serums – The Secret Sauce

And now, the serums. These are the powerhouse of your skincare routine. They're like a love letter to your skin, packed with active ingredients that address your skin's unique needs.

Be it hydration, brightening, anti-aging, or blemish control – there's a serum for that! But remember, the secret lies in the selection. It's crucial to pick a serum that suits your skin type and tackles your concerns. For dry skin, look for hyaluronic acid. For oily, go for niacinamide to control sebum production. Serums with antioxidants like vitamin C are perfect for normal skin, offering protection against environmental stressors and promoting a youthful glow.

Moisturize and Protect

Last but not least, Moisturizing is the cherry on top of your skincare routine. It's the protective blanket that locks in all the goodness of the products you've carefully applied. Plus, it hydrates your skin and helps maintain its natural moisture barrier.

No matter your skin type: always, I mean always, apply sunscreen during the day. You have to protect your skin against harmful UV rays. So slather on that SPF, because the sun doesn't discriminate, and neither should your skincare routine.
